As I have decided to create short horror/slasher film which focuses on classic tropes in horror movies and celebrating them and honoring them as well as setting it in the north east for a grounded realistic background in the setting in itself. So going out of my way to research and document/finding existing classic north east short films which focuses on the bleak and tough backgrounds' in everyday north east life and for the classic horror/slashers they are set in a more fiction tale of scariness and kills. As that I did research into a couple/dozen horror movies and north east films to find out more information and learn what that specific movie did and what I could take from it.

I , Daniel Blake (2016)

I , Daniel Blake follows two main characters both in struggling and dire situations, struggling with money and finding a footing, both main character in the hardships in Britain more specifically in the north east following the tragic system of the government in the north east seeing the lows of each character seeing how bad things can truly become. I , Daniel Blake gives a new meaning to me personally for films set in the north east offering a grounded take on the real world hardships Daniel Blake having a unique bleak presence in the film makes the the core of the movie shine more giving actual real to a degree problems in the north east I feel that i could personally take the scene and bleak manner of the movie and applying it to my movie by doing this I could hit the brief by setting it in the north east and giving its background and color.

for instance this scene is so breaking and important to the film and its message we see one of the main characters in a food bank (Katie) we see her shopping around in the food bank collecting items until she gets a can of beans and opens it and eats the beans with her bare hands chewing quick until she gets caught and quickly breaks down and starts apologizing immediately. We see what has come of her life and her current state she's basically starving within the north east so much she just needed a taste of anything its a sad thing to see but a much needed message about poverty in UK as well as the government not helping those who need it most in the movie. I feel its strong message about the state of north east in the film is something I can learn from in my film or talk about going down a serious path of the tragic system people can be sadly affected by.

Billy Elliot ( 2000)

Billy Elliot takes off as 11 year old boy, a could miners son in Northam England, is forever changed one day when he stumbles upon a local ballet class  during his weekly boxing  lesson . before long he himself in a dance position demonstrating raw talent seen by al his peers and by the class exacting instructor, Mrs. Wilkinson, as she sees Billy dancing potential. The movie reflects on a young child gender norms in the mid 80s struggling with family conflicts and poverty during the mining strikes in the north east Billy Elliot is a more positive movie  rather than I, Daniel Blake that being a more real negative movie Billy Elliot is a positive coming of age story set in the north east showing the ups and down of a kids perspective of life and problems when finding what he likes being doubted by others and family he is in a place that he doesn't know how to get off I feel like as a whole this movie shows a sad story of a young child but a feel good movie nonetheless of a kid learning his place in the world no matter what it means i feel personally I could use the energy and Witt of this movie as well as the charming aspects of the characters as opposed to the setting of the film.

This scene is crucial in the movie because of its emotions and meaning the whole movie Billy Elliot is being doubted by his whole family and everyone around him keeps doubting him but he keeps pushing for his dream even being doubted by his own father but nonetheless he keeps going its good meaning no matter gender or race, just a kid pushing for his dream no matter what, its a good positive contrast as the characters can be rich in joy as the negative background is in play to the north east.

Scream (1996)

Scream was a big hit in the late 90s Scream follows a group of high school teens experiencing murders following around the town and them as well. following them around is masked ghostfaced killing and tormenting them every opportunity it gets picking each teen one by one in a dramatic and fun gruesome fashion. Scream breaks the normal horror trope when scream came out it innovated the horror genre forever. Having a movie that breaks the tropes and recognizes them in the movie as well was groundbreaking coming to become one of the classics horror movies in the 90s and forever holding a high standard in the horror genre forever. With a somewhat unknown and Very know cast each making this movie special what really makes this movie shine is the reveal. Finding out that there are not one but Two killers changed everything for the movies so much that so many movies and its sequels tried to format this creative plot and failed heavily. Having matthew lillard and skeet ulrich as two killers with no motives are little to none breaks the ''horror trope'' with needing a tragic backstory to be a killer or need some sorta crazy malicious motive having two crazy teens running around bloodying up the town made this movie so iconic and for me personally it holds up in all time top 5 horror movies.

I Want to talk about 2 scenes that I feel honour and what made this film so special firstly the first scene is the opening following the main character (drew) making popcorn getting a random call from an unknown person when it suddenly takes a turn when he asks he wants to know her name because he is looking at her for me personally horror movies take forever to introduce characters and the villain's aren't in the movie a lot so bringing it in the first 5 mins to really show what this movie is about having a instant scare across screens was new back then we were used to a slow burner for a story not for scream having a killer who we get to guess who is it? had a innovation kept a lot of people interested people wanted to see the ghost face so people stuck with the ''annoying'' teens. scream changed that by having the horror rules introduced having certain thing you cant to survive in a horror movie and they end up breaking the rules anyway which was fantastic keeping you on your toes and making you guess where it will go next.

Having this scene made me fall in love with this film people probably expected for it to be billy but having two killers accompany by stu of course made this scene iconic in the horror hall of fame the reveal of stu doing the iconic ''ghostface voice'' made me gasp to be honest them two being equally crazy being a ghost face duo killing people for fun or just because billy explaining that there isn't a really motive to why there are doing it was great he even said '' besides not having a motive makes it scarier'' an iconic line that i agree with being a killer for the sake of it was scarier than a horrible motive having billy a syndical calm scary killer and stu being the crazy unpredictable one made them working together so much cooler being crazy teens willing to stab each other to make it real made it better in every way this changed horror forever in my opinion and forever will. it changed it so much that my film is based on it.

Halloween (1978)

Halloween brought horror into a fresh face with this installment having john carpenter create such an iconic film in that time Halloween follows laurie ''final girl'' strode and Michael myers having one of them being followed and the other the follower makes this a linear for fans for the two mains to meet when they do you expect laurie to be finished but no laurie proves herself as ''final girl'' giving her the the iconic nickname in horror having john carpenter bring in a killer that really had no motive similar to scream having Michael myers have almost no reason that we know of (depends on the movie) being a kid who had his first kill then to a man who carries the torch in killing spirit being a boogeyman having almost over 10 sequels and never dying once Michael myers is presented a figment a supernatural figure we cant identify with a man who does what he wants and kills who gets in his way bringing his nature the supernatural getting thrown burnt shot beaten and way more in each movie coming back just as strong as his first kill on the board having a killer that just uses a kitchen knife as his main weapon tells you that its not the weapon that matters or doing the killing Michael myers carrying what he finds and making it symbolic weapon whoever its being used on. Having the iconic name the shape means just more then a scary nickname being branded with the name shape is symbolising that Michael is being presented as almost a body without feelings or passions his a mask of voided death branded with killing and murdering having the name ''the shape'' makes Michael myers seem like a vessel carrying a torment twitch to kill not for ''fun or because ''motive'' because him being a ''shape'' makes it way more intimidating than a tradition killer that can be stopped he looks like a man breathes like man walks like man kills like a man but is so much more inside the iconic mask.

In this scene we see Michael rise almost from the dead like its nothing. Just before this scene laurie fough viscially with all her might stabbing the shape with his own knife feeling scared and settled as she thinks its over while in the back we see Michael myers rise from the grave in a ghostly manner almost like its a second life or he's possessed i personally think this is where he got the iconic ''boogeyman'' name where he a figment of death and cant be killed and we very much see that Michael suiting up and not even taking a second to look or feel his wounds. The shape is ready for round 2 with no seeming damage or tiredness giving no restraint on movement and power he's just as strong as he was when he started even though laurie did significant damage as it would appear it woulda killed a human or a man. But Michael myers is no man as john carpenter made him to be as a supernatural being almost.

   Chucky (1988)

Childs play came out in 1988 and shocked and left fans hungry for more satisficed with a new killer running around not traditional from the rest. A reformed killer doll voiced by Brad Douriff changed horror and made chucky the iconic killer wise cracking doll that he is. Don Mancini the creative mind behind it all stuck with it through all the all the ups and downs its had and will have Chucky is currenting killing in his own tv series at the minute. Don mancini went through scripts, directors and many issues but he fought through to the end to see chucky killing spree take off on the big screens. Chucky wasnt an easy task by any means having a 6ft 3 killer like Jason or Michael was not too much to ask people are tall, having a doll running around doing the killer on the other hand is quite the task it took over 8 men just to control chucky in full fashion, it took 2 men just to control eye's alone. but its was all worth it in the end providing a new take in horror not by a short fault throughout its setbacks rough setbacks Chucky became one of the main horror names people would say out of the horror hall of fame. Unlike its friends of horror chucky didnt rebrand or redo its errors or its 'faults' it didn't re write movies to make more money. Don mancini has made chucky a legend and a misery to watch but throughout it all he never got rid of or left. He stuck through the bad movies and good movies to see it through it all and for me personally chucky deserves all the love and fame its became My family's favourite horror franchise unlike its other horror legends its never got off the boat. Not once.

This is where the movie truly took off this is where it changed tone and became a horror throughout the movie fans and viewers are left wondering if its chucky? or is it andy? we don't know if charles lee ray's spell worked we all thought it failed but Andy's mother figure it out when a doll didn't have batteries she spoke to it and to her very surprise it spoke back and its was a turning point its sudden change of facial expressions and raw voice acting of Brad Douriff swearing down onto the mother shocked me and many others This is the Chucky we wanted and we got it.

this is an extended look into three of the five products i talked about detailing techniques in each film and what presented with it.
