This is my production diary of all the information containing my process and journey into planning my journey into then actually shooting for the posters. The production Diary includes sketches planning and how many days it took to shoot and why. As well the filming location and why I filmed there and how I thought the overall process was.
First of all I planned out some Ideas into my production I didn't want to just jump straight into production with some sort of plan and ideas for the posters I wanted to create some drafts or sketches of what could possibly be the photos. I got some paper and a pencil and started to come up with ideas for the posters with sketching I enjoyed doing it because every time I made a mistake I could adjust or change the sketched poster and that gave me more freedom than usual.
My process into creating poster sketch 1 -
I started by sketching a rough version of the ghost face mask since this was the original based idea I wanted to form around that. I thought it would be a good start I tried to get the overall shape I didn't want to press down too hard because I'm just trying out shapes and areas. This allowed me to take it slow and experiment in new directions.
In the second version I added some blood to it and tried to make it similar to the film version since in that film I decided to cover the mask in blood halfway through the shoot I would like it to be continued here. So I sketched some of the blood on the right hand side of the face coming down to the mouth and nose. I like how it was coming together but I thought it wasn't clear enough and I'm bad at drawing sadly so I decided to mark it and show people what it means. I am also going to draw and color it in. I think it will help the blood stand out more from the rough sketched mask.
In the third version I filled in the mask and wanted to shade the areas of blood to give it more definition. After that I gently went around and filled the outside shape of the mask more since i'm happy with the shape now there is no reason to sketch and draw ''lightly'' now I can move onto the next step of the mask poster.
The fourth version I sketched a hand reaching for the mask this is because I wanted to create like a overhead shot of the mask being left behind covered in blood or something else and someone reaching for it. Shows that it isn't over and I like the ruined mask idea contrasting that it ends once the mask is destroyed. No matter how dirty or beaten it looks.
Finally for this poster sketch I sketched in the hand more and made the fingers look overall a little better. I also added more definition to the overall picture as well. This is my first poster and and overall rough version of what the posters could turn out like.
My process into creating poster sketch 2 -
Firstly I started to shade the idea out with the eyes and began to circle a rough shape of the face this is because I wanted to take inspiration from the classic scream poster. Not only was my film and trailer inspired by the hit classic movie my posters were I thought they it would be nice to get my own version of the classic simplified poster.
After that I began to fill in the eyes and start to get some pupils. The proplem was that I didn't like the shape of the nose it was too beefy and overall didn't look the best even though they weren't proper posters and more rough plans of what could be I wanted the drafts and sketched to be clear as possible so Re - drew the nose and eyes a bit it didn't feel scared in the expression so I wanted to change that.
Finally I added some eyebrows and drew a hand across the mouth. I wasn't overall happy with this version and this sketch but its still nice to have that option when it comes to filming. I will still use this poster to try and make a good version.
My process into creating poster sketch 3 -
The next sketch I started was something I came up whilst doing the last one. I started this idea by drawing a silhouette of man walking away from the camera it was meant to be a long shot type of poster walking into the mist resembling a ghost face mask.
After I kept drawing him walking away and building the body up until I liked the direction of what and how it was looking. I wanted to get the body shape corect as well since conner is the main character I wanted to draw around that. After that I wanted to get the hat and shoes drawn to show more definition it helps the poster stand out as well as the person in front of the poster. I Really went back and fourth with this poster because I wanted it to look good and it took a while to get the position and framing of the man I liked.
Overall the final step was to add the silhoutte in the backround im not too sure about this idea I am a fan of him walking away I like the simplicity of it. I will try to make the best of the poster and try to make it work anway.
My process into creating poster sketch 4 -
This was my last sketch poster I did which was more of a last minute decision I dediced to almost another version of the last poster. This version was a house and a long road to that house with the iconic ghost face mask hovering and looming over it.
I started to sketch the house and get a definition on it and shade.
After that I dotted up and finished up the road and made sure to keep it next and in line to the hosue and decided to rough mark the outside (each side) of the road to show and have a sketch of grass.
Planning and exucuting the posters -
Overall this sketches will help me massively in production and hopefully will turn out pretty similiar or as close to the orginal idea as can be. After getting all the sketches done I started to plan out the ideas and how I was going to film and when. Since college was closed sadly I was going to have to use my phone which was a samsung s10+ this had decent enough quality that in my eyes were poster worthy. I also made sure to check in with one of my cast mates, my brother, conner bainbridge. After getting the go ahead that he was wanting to be in the poster shoot. I was basically ready to go I made sure to also film in the same location as my film was. As well as making sure I had the mask ready to go for the posters.
Once that was done I was ready to film on my phone with conner we planned for a day 3 days after getting my sketched done and making sure everything was ready to go. The day for shooting was to be on 26th of feb. I made sure that he was free that day making sure I had it all planned out before eventually shooting the posters.
26/02/23
The day of shooting came I made sure my phone was charged and had all the equipment in my bad blood, mask, coat, hat and etc. I had to see if conner was up for it that day and he was at his girlfriends house that day. I did ask him to film that day like we discussed but he decided to pull out unfortunately. After this there wasnt much I could do sadly. I decided to go out anyway and take some photos that I could possbly use anyway. I didnt want the day to go to waste just because he pulled out. I made the most of it and took some poster photos with my phone.
The photos I took with my phone -

After this I decided to look at these photos and pick what is what could be best for the photos. I felt limited that day because of conner pulling out sadly so I had to make do. On this day I decided to look at them and the quality they were good and definetly were usable but I think overall They look rushed and not much thought I managed to only get one of the 4 sketched ideas that I wanted and I'm not happy with that to be honest. After this I wanted to go back and re take the photos with a proffesional camera despite conner still not being available I decided to move forward and make do with what I have and find a way to still produce and make quality looking posters.
I decided to message my close friend/peer Richard Buckly he goes to the same college and is on the same course as me. He has and owns a proffesional DSLR camera which is great because there are the same ones that the college use. The college was shut due to being the week off and Luckily in my favour Richard was doing posters for his film/project as well. So I asked him to borrow the camera after he's done and start again and take some better photos overall.
29/02/23
This was the day of filming. Things changed a little as we were doing it together to make it easier. Richard was going to meet me at mine to take his posters. We were going to help eachother take them and take turns getting the posters each of us needed. It took about an hour between us wasnt long at all we managed to get all the images I wanted and he wanted I managed to get differant versions and more versions similiar to the few I got before with my phone. As well as some completely differant poster type's so Im very happy with that and overall very happys it's done.
Now onto post - production!
